A Married Couple Becomes Troubled About Their Abusive And Irresponsible Drinking And Questions Whether They Exhibit Any Alcohol Addiction Signs

Angie and Lenny have been married for six years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they decided to have some kids and so they with forethought created an extraordinarily active social life.

The essential problem, it needs to be highlighted, is that virtually everything they do socially somehow involves drinking. For example, all of the family get-togethers, dinner engagements, parties with friends, happy hours, and sporting events they patronize somehow involve drinking.

If they were moderate drinkers this wouldn't be a major problem. Because they drink quite heavily, however, they are beginning to observe some clearly identifiable alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.

For instance, just three days ago Lenny received a second DUI and has been calling off from work because of alcohol-related health issues. In addition, Lenny's last three performance reviews at work have been less than admirable and he has started to fail to remember what he does or says while he drinks. As a final point, Lenny has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to display some disquiet about his drinking behavior.

In a similar manner, Angie has been feeling depressed with life and to deal with this, she has been drinking more repeatedly than any time in the past eight months. Not only this, but Angie has been getting more than a few headaches and experiencing terrible hangovers due to her drinking. Finally, Angie has been feeling significantly less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least once per week, and she has been getting some occasional criticism from her family members, relatives, friends, and coworkers about her careless drinking.

One Thursday evening while watching TV, Lenny and Angie without any planning at all discovered a fascinating documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about the signs of alcoholism in particular. This TV program was a real realization to Lenny and Angie because more than a few of the alcohol facts that were gone over seemed like they were indubitably related to numerous drinking difficulties Lenny and Angie had been going through.

With thoughts of the TV special still fresh in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could be a signal that they are alcoholic or possibly becoming addicted to alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's question and so he suggested that they schedule an appointment with one of the therapists at the local substance abuse rehab center to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking problems.

Paradoxically, even though their drinking situation hadn't yet changed, it was apparent that Angie and Lenny were at the very least concentrating on their drinking problems, they were excited about finding out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in learning how they could significantly lessen or eliminate the alcohol-related difficulties that had begun to emerge.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that evening, they arrived at a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the alcohol treatment clinic located just East of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to triumph over the alcohol-related difficulties that had cropped up in their lives, they in point of fact had the best night's sleep they could remember in the last three years.
