A Woman Manifest Signs Of Depression And Alcohol Addiction And Schedules An Appointment To See Her Healthcare Professional
Cindy was a thirty-year-old pharmacy technician who realized that she had some drinking issues. For example, within the past five months she has felt the need to have a few drinks before going to work, four months ago she failed a random urine alcohol test where she is employed, five weeks ago she got arrested by the state highway patrol for a DWI, and last but not least, for about three months she has begun to forget what she says and does when she goes out drinking with her pals.
Like multitudes of other individuals, Cindy's involvement with alcohol started out at a "snail's pace" and remained at this pace for quite some time because every so often she engaged in sporadic social drinking. As a matter of fact, for almost a year, every time she went out to drink, she made sure to drink moderately. Something about her drinking behavior, however, seemed to drastically change when her husband divorced her.
Cindy got especially sad about the loss of her husband, and as a way to stop obsessing about her discouraging feelings she decided to begin hanging around more routinely with some of her friends who love to "get down" and drink. It didn't take long, however, before her drinking escalated to a significant degree the more often she went to and drank at sporting events, happy hours, private parties, dinner dates, and family get-togethers with her buddies.
To put it briefly, she was having a ton of fun drinking just like everybody else in her group of friends without giving too much consideration about the alcohol short term effects and particularly about the alcohol long term effects she has been experiencing. Yet in the back of her mind she realized the facts about the adverse alcohol effects on the body and on the mind and that she most likely required alcohol treatment but sidestepped the thought as much as she could.
One day during her annual physical examination, her healthcare practitioner asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell falsehoods to her healthcare practitioner, Cindy disclosed the truth that she often drinks more than she should. In actual fact, she articulated that she frequently drinks in an abusive manner. Then Cindy informed her healthcare practitioner about her depression. More explicitly, she articulated that broken relationships usually caused a negative cycle of events typified by increased drinking which further resulted in more dismal feelings that, in turn, resulted in even more drinking. And this is specifically what happened when she and her husband got divorced ten months ago.
Cindy's doctor then told her the following: "I am not trying to make an unprofessional analysis, but with your medical condition e may be working with two separate concerns. As a result, I think we need to schedule an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcoholism evaluation from my partner, Dr. Bakos, who is an alcohol abuse and substance abuse specialist."
"Whether your drinking condition is more linked to alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse is unclear, but I think that further assessment is warranted. Then I think we probably should schedule an appointment for you to get a psychological evaluation from another one of my partners, Dr. Miller, ."
"I want to get a better read on your pessimism and see how much your drinking and depression are interrelated." Cindy displayed her agreement with her healthcare practitioner's treatment plan and thanked him for his assistance and concern.
